Summary
The department of LMU Nuclear Medicine provides large scale patient service with over 6000 oncological patients/year imaged on three PET/CT cameras and approximately 1000 oncological therapies/year. A GMP radiopharmacy with cyclotron provides over 30% of the radiopharmaceuticals needed for these targeted oncological diagnostics and therapies. The patient centered infrastructure is supplemented by animal imaging facilities, allowing for the preclinical evaluation of new radiopharmaceuticals and treatment strategies in rodent models.
The oncological research of the department focuses on the development and clinical application of new diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, dosimetry and image processing. The disease entities in the scientific focus are mainly brain tumors, prostate cancer and neuroendocrine tumors.
